OASIS ebXML Registry and Repository v3.0: functions, applications and interoperability

Two of the international standards for registries are the OASIS ebXML Registry Information Model (ebXML RIM) and ebXML Registry Services and Protocols (ebXML RS) standards. These were developed initially for registering information objects related to electronic business, although the implementation use and scope is broader than that. ebXML registries enable secure, federated information management within and across enterprises. The ebXML registry standards promote service discovery and interoperability, while enabling secure, efficient sharing, reuse, and version control of information objects. ebXML Registry is particularly suited to support application- and domain-specific use cases. These standards have been adopted and deployed in vertical industries including government, health care, geospatial, telecommunications, banking, and finance. This session will provide a brief overview of the features and functions of version 3.0, the benefits of using a registry for managing information objects, successful implementations, future directions, and how the ebXML RIM and RS can interoperate and work together with other standards to solve business problems.
